Whether you are mastering an instrument or playing one for the first time, this fall is the perfect time to hone your musical skills — the YUJC would like to help out by connecting you with a professional musician from the Connecticut area and subsidizing the cost of virtual lessons. PROGRAM INFORMATION

General

  • Each program participant will receive five fully subsidized lessons with a jazz instructor in the Connecticut area (participants will not be charged any money for lessons)

  • All lessons must occur by the end of the Fall 2024 semester

  • All lessons will be fully virtual unless otherwise arranged by individual students and instructors

  • Note: students of all instruments are welcome - if there’s no instructor listed for your instrument, you will be placed with one for a related or similar instrument

Instructors (Instruments)

  • This program will be open to all Yale undergraduates regardless of enrollment status

  • There is limited space in the program, and it is possible that not all students will be accepted

  • Admission will not be based on skill level – applicants of all backgrounds in jazz are welcome

  • Upon admission, students have 2 days to claim their spot, after which it will go to another applicant

Application

  • Students must complete five lessons over the course of the spring 2024 semester

  • Students will coordinate with instructors to schedule their five lessons evenly throughout the semester

  • Cancellations and rescheduling of lessons should occur at least 24 hours in advance

  • Participants are expected to arrive on time to lessons, communicate openly with their teachers, and (most importantly, of course) practice in between lessons

  • This program will only work if students are invested and work together to create a supportive and positive community – participants are expected to do so
